The Definitive Marijuana Bath: Why Soaking in Mary Jane’s Medicinals’ Heavenly Hash Bath Feels So Dang Good
When I first started making my cannabis-infused salves and oils, I was faced with a sad fact: Once I finished the infusion process, the oil needed to be strained, and all of the beautiful green plant material had to be tossed into the compost pile.
I knew those leafy leftovers must have quite a bit of medicine still within them, and that there must be some further use for that material, but I couldn’t figure out what exactly.
Then one night when I was soaking in the tub I had an a-ha moment. What would happen if I put some of that plant material in my bathwater and soaked in a tub of “weed tea”?
My first attempt to carry out this plan was wrapping a ball of weed in cheesecloth and putting it in the tub with me. Whoa, was it relaxing! But it didn’t have the soothing smells I associate with a restful bath. It was more on the earthy side.
My favorite evening tea is an herbal blend with peppermint and lavender, so on my next round of “soaks for science” I added those essential oils. The smell was wonderful, adding a lovely aromatherapy element to my ability to unwind.
Besides smelling good, the herbs have fantastic healing properties: Lavender is often used to help treat acne, wrinkles, psoriasis, inflammation, wounds and burns. Peppermint is known for helping with pain, congestion and digestion; It has been used to treat cold and flu symptoms, nausea, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), menstrual cramps, muscular pains and aches, rheumatoid arthritis, acne, itchy and irritated skin, burns, insect bites, headaches and ease stress and emotional imbalance.
I’m also a fan of epsom salts, so I added those, too—to open the pores and increase the relaxation benefits even more. The benefits of epsom salts include relaxing the nervous system, soothing back pain and aching limbs, easing muscle strains, healing cuts and drawing
toxins from the body.
Mary Janes Medicinals Heavenly Hash BathWith these extra ingredients, I had stumbled on a really delicious and rejuvenating home-spa experience, something we now know as the Heavenly Hash Bath.
Over the years, we’ve started adding healing minerals from salts derived from the Dead Sea. The minerals include magnesium, which combats stress and fluid retention, slows skin aging and has calming properties for the nervous system. Calcium increases circulation and strengthens bones and nails. Energizing potassium replenishes the body, and bromides ease muscle stiffness.
We also use grapeseed oil, which is rich in vitamin E and has anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-aging and anti-microbial properties.
The herbs and salts work in synchronicity with the cannabis, creating a more effective mix. Think of it as steeping yourself in a big cup of THC-infused healing herbal tea.
The Heavenly Hash Bath is great for stress relief, mood enhancement and general “attitude adjustment.” Some people use it to reboot after a long day or week. Many people who have trouble getting to sleep have said they sleep like a baby after soaking. The lavender is probably helping out there, as it’s known to be effective in relieving stress and tension, and it’s often used in aromatherapy to uplift and soothe.
Others have told me that when they feel like they may be catching a cold, they jump in a Heavenly Hash Bath as a way to boost their immune system. It can also be a life-saver during menstruation, providing relief for those suffering from cramps. This makes sense, since cannabis is said to stabilize hormones. Like our other topical products, the bath helps with inflammation, and acts as a calming analgesic.
I regularly immerse myself in the aptly-named Heavenly Hash Baths. In fact, I recently had a hash bath the night before my wedding.
So, if you’re looking for a great way to chill out, wind down or rejuvenate, give yourself the treat of a Heavenly Hash Bath on your next night in.
